Texas State Railroad Campground

While we have shared this review before, we wanted to share again so you have time to book a trip this summer. This is one of our favorite Texas parks.

A few miles outside of Rusk you will find the Texas State Railroad Campground. The park is quiet and when the train is running from the Rusk Station it makes a turn around in the campground. The kids love it! There is a splash pad, a lake, and two playgrounds. The town of Rusk is just a quick drive if you need groceries, fast food, or our favorite Redbox movies. The larger town of Palestine is about 25 minutes. This campground is deep in the pineywoods, lots of shade! Most spots are level, we just have to watch our slide on the trees. This is on our list of parks at least once a year.

Make sure you look at the special events calendar and book your tickets on the Texas State Railroad. Weather permitting we travel on the Polar Express. If you have young kids it is a must! Last year we had to call off our trip at the last minute due to the severe flooding and storms that hit during Thanksgiving week. Please note that there is not a refund unless the train is unable to run, even due to weather conditions. So be prepared to make a generous donation if you are unable I make the trip. Make sure to book this park soon! Don’t miss this hidden gem. http://www.texasstaterr.com
